Turin will be the “home” of digital with the Popular Digital Festival. On Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October – with a preview on Friday 7 – the Piedmontese capital will host the first Italian event dedicated to digital culture and policy, organised by the Fondazione Italia Digitale under the patronage of the City of Turin.

These are the first guests announced today at the conference presenting the event, held in the Sala Colonne in the presence of the Councillor for Ecological and Digital Transition, Smart City Project and Innovation of the City of Turin Chiara Foglietta and the President of the Fondazione Italia Digitale Francesco Di Costanzo. The ‘special’ guest of the presentation was footballer and entrepreneur Giorgio Chiellini, one of the Festival’s protagonists, who sent a video greeting from Los Angeles, and who experienced some of the best and most decisive moments of his career in the city of Turin.
“The digital transformation concerns people first and foremost: it is a valuable ally for improving the quality of life of citizens and promoting more democracy, equality, inclusion and sustainable growth,‘ commented Councillor Chiara Foglietta. But technology must represent an opportunity for all citizens and not be the cause of a divide in favour of a technological and economic oligarchy. Technology can be a means of fighting inequality and promoting social and labour inclusion, provided that everyone can make full use of it, Foglietta continued.Even in our city there are many, too many, people who are not connected, who do not have sufficient digital skills, or who are not at ease in the digital ecosystem. This is why it is important to talk about popular digital: the path towards this goal cannot disregard the increasing involvement of those segments of the population that have so far remained on the margins’.”.
“”Digital is a great opportunity in the daily lives of all of us, with the pandemic there has been an acceleration and a huge spotlight has been turned on these issues with the growth of awareness on the part of citizens, public administrations, companies – explains the president of the Fondazione Italia Digitale, Francesco Di Costanzo – now is the time to make this change structural, to bring digital into the places of normality, to make it popular. This is why with Fondazione Italia Digitale we are working on digital culture and policy on a daily basis Digital technology performs its task best if it is simple, fair, concrete, safe, within everyone’s reach. Hence the idea of a popular Digital Festival, for the first time in our country and in a city, Turin, which has always been sensitive and attentive to innovation’.”.
